Did you know? In Queensland, assaulting a person aged 60 or over, is now recognised as a serious criminal offence under the Criminal Code.

Who's Protected?

Anyone aged 60 and over, especially in settings like hospitals, aged care, or public spaces.

What's the Penalty?

Up to 7 years imprisonment for offenders who intentionally cause harm.

Why it Matters

This law sends a clear message: Older Australians deserve respect, safety and dignity.  It's a step forward in tackling elder abuse and protecting our community's most experienced voices.

TRCOTA stands with older Townsville residents - and we'll keep advocating for stronger protections, better awareness and lasting change.
